The 2025 Newtown BOS Chronicle

Beginning in 2020, I began preparing detailed notes before attending Board of Supervisors (BOS) meetings. These notes (1) remind me about the issues and questions I might ask during the meeting, and (2) provide links to background information. After the meetings I update the notes to indicate how the BOS voted and to include answers to my questions.
I upload my notes to my website as part of my periodic posting of summaries of BOS meetings. I recognize, however, that not everyone who visits my website can find these summaries or put them in chronological order to see the discussions on the same issue from one meeting to another.
Hence, the "Newtown Township BOS Chronicles," which I hope solves that problem by putting all this information - including the BOS voting record for the year, a glossary of terms, an index, and links to documents and data - all in ONE document.
Overview
The comprehensive chronicle of 2025 Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meetings curated by John Mack, offers a detailed record of local governance and community issues. The text highlights significant infrastructure projects, including pedestrian safety studies, bridge designs over Newtown Creek, and the implementation of road paving programs.
Public safety remains a central theme, documented through monthly police activity statistics, fire department recruitment efforts, and debates over the necessity of a new police vehicle.
The sources also reflect ongoing zoning and land development challenges, such as disputes over business signage in the historic district and resident opposition to over development.
Financial transparency is addressed through budget discussions, including a controversial tax increase and the process of selecting a local bank as the township depository.
Finally, the records emphasize citizen engagement, capturing resident advocacy regarding crosswalk safety and the preservation of historic community character.

Before you read the Chronicle, consider taking a 10 question multiple-choice quiz that tests your knowledge of the issues and decisions that Supervisors voted on in 2025. Some questions include:
- Chandler Hall residents and staff repeatedly appeared before the Board of Supervisors to request what specific safety improvement for the crosswalk on South Sycamore Street?
- What reason did Fire Chief Glenn Forsyth give for removing the specific operational benchmarks, such as response times, from the 2026 Fire Services Agreement with the Newtown Fire Association (NFA)?
- The 2026 budget discussion highlighted a significant gap between the township's road paving needs and the proposed funding. What was the minimum number of road miles that needed to be paved annually just to maintain the current condition of township roads?
