Pedestrian Bridge Discussion
The Steeple View bridge is the SECOND proposed Newtown Creek pedestrian bridge connecting the Borough to the Township. The other is located at Frost Lane in the Borough connecting to North Sycamore Street in the Township. For more on that bridge, read “Supervisors OK #NewtownPA Creek Pedestrian Bridge Grant Application, BUT I Have Concerns”.
Are these bridges really necessary? Will there be enough money from grants and sources other than strapped municipal funds to cover the expense? Who will benefit the most – the Borough or the Township?
The following is a 6-minute video that includes the audio recording of the discussion:
Residential Trash Pickup Discussion
Trash haulers are moving away from residential business and focusing on commercial business for higher profits. Should Newtown implement a single-hauler trash pickup for ALL residents as in some neighboring townships?
The video below presents results of Single Hauler Trash Pickup Survey that asked #NewtownPA residents “Should Newtown Township contract with one trash company for savings, efficiency, less noise and pollution?”
After viewing the summary of the results, participants discussed the pros and cons and provided their personal experiences. Linda, for example, said that Middletown Township includes trash, recycling and yard waste rolled into its taxes.Trash Pick up is 2 x per week, recycle is one time per week, and yard waste is 1x per week (spring, summer and fall). Middletown uses Waste Management.
Borscht Belt Deli Neon Sign Discussion
At the 4 January 2024 meeting of the Newtown Township Zoning Hearing Board, the Borscht Belt attorney cited several businesses that he claimed have neon signs in their windows such as Acqua e Farina at 50 Richboro Rd. The Township Solicitor objected saying "the existence of any other sign within the township whatsoever is completely and wholly irrelevant to the enforcement notice being appealed today.” The township argued that the appeal was filed late and therefore should be denied.
