Supervisor John Mack – 22 January 2024 Meet Mack Monday Zoom Meeting
Fifteen (15) Newtown residents and 2 Newtown area residents attended my January 22, 2024 Meet Mack Monday Zoom meeting, which focused on a number of topics. Of special interest was trash pickup.
The question Meet Mack Monday attendees discussed was “Should Newtown implement a single-hauler trash pickup for ALL residents as in some neighboring townships?”
My poll of 91 residents says 40% said Newtown Township should contract with one trash company, while 38% said “Maybe. It Depends [on the cost; i.e., tax increase] and 22% said “Definitely Not!”

COMMENTS: Newtown Creek Pedestrian Bridge – Local Share Account Grant
As we all know, the Township and Borough have applied for a grant to fund this bridge that would connect Frost Lane in the Borough with N Sycamore St in the Township. This and the proposed Steeple View bridge was discussed at my recent Meet Mack Monday Zoom meeting. There was a question about the anticipated award announcement date. The 5 January 2024 Engineer’s Report anticipates that awards will be ANNOUNCED IN September 2024.
Solicitor's Report
Sally Sallit – Inground Pool
COMMENT: The Planning Commission’s Synopsis includes the “maximum” percentage impervious surface “allowed.” In this case it is 12% and the applicant is seeking to increase that to 19.7%, which is actually a 64% increase over the maximum ((19.7-12)/12). Whereas if you were to look at just the EXISTING % vs the increase would ONLY be 8.9% ((19.7-14.9)/14.9)! This illustrates the problem I have with some of these impervious surface variance applications - they are much more serious than at first glance, especially when climate change (increased rainfall, etc.) is upon us.
The BOS approved this application.
