27 May 2026 BOS Meeting Executive Brief
The Township Board of Supervisors (BOS) conducted a brief, 14-minute session on 27 May 2026 – probably the shortest, “do nothing” BOS meeting ever!.
Key business included the approval of the May 13th minutes (read “5 Surprising Takeaways from the 13 May 2026 Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Meeting”) and the payment of the May 27th bill list (Read “Briefing: May 27, 2026 Bills List”).
The Board declined to take action on five zoning hearing board applications recommended for no action by the Planning Commission.
Departmental Updates
- Fire Department:

- Personnel: Firefighter EMT Mike Beam is retiring after 28 years of service. A recruitment process is underway to replace him, with physical agility testing scheduled for June 6th.
- Community Engagement: The department participated in multiple local events, including the Newtown Business Association expo and a wellness expo.
- Volunteer Recruitment: The department is in critical need of volunteers.
- Heroic Action: A Deputy Chief and a Buckingham Township police officer were recognized for successfully resuscitating a child who suffered cardiac arrest/drowning at a local pool.
- Upcoming Recognition: The final June 29 meeting starting at 6 PM will feature a picnic to honor volunteers and career staff, including the presentation of the Firefighter of the Year and Chief’s Awards.
Nuance & Friction
- Entity Independence: A statement was entered into the record by Supervisor Calabro clarifying that the “Newtown” organizations — specifically the Newtown Joint Sewer Authority — are independent entities, not government-controlled, and that the township bears no financial responsibility for their private enterprise operations. The Board emphasized that residents should direct inquiries to the appropriate entities rather than the township. It was determined after the meeting that this referred to emails supervisors received from a resident complaining of actions by the sewer authority that adversely affected his property; i.e., driveway.
