Mack Participation in Police Memorial
I attended the Bucks County Polic Memorial Ceremony held at St. Andrew RC Church in Newtown on Monday, May 19, 2025. This ceremony, organized by the Bucks County Police Memorial Committee, invited residents to join in honoring fallen officers. The ceremony began with bag pipers entering the church. Mack Participation in Memorial Day Parade
I attended the Newtown Memorial Day parade on 26 May 2025 (see photo published in the Newtown Patch below). I handed out “Make America’s Constitution King” cards, which I created for the occasion.
Conditional Use Hearing
Cava (restaurant use) is seeking to open in the now vacant MOD Pizza space in the Village at Newtown. The use is to be a full service mediterranean-style restaurant.
The Planning Commission has reviewed the application and has recommended approval. The proposed 2,812 s.f. Eating Place (Use E-5) and Eating Place – Drive-In Restaurant (Use E-6) are allowable Conditional Uses in the Planned Commercial District. The BOS voted 5-0 to approve this use.
Manager’s Report
Approval of Fire Building Study Proposal
Gorski Engineering provided the township with a “firm-fixed price” Professional Services proposal to assist in planning a new Fire Station in Newtown Township. Refer ro the 2025 BOS Chronicle for details of the proposal.
The 2025 budget had included $20,000 under the Fire Capital Fund for this study. I asked that the township ask Gorski Engineering to bring the price down. For example, is it necessary to prepare a 3-D model? Wouldn’t a rendering be sufficient? Also, is it really necessary to visit sites at this time (one of which is Chandler Field)? Unfortunately, my suggestion fell on deaf ears, The BOS approved the proposal unanimously.
Public Comment
Ms. Mihalek inquired about the Tara Blvd crosswalk timeline (Read “The Case for a Sidewalk Along Newtown-Yardley Road in #NewtownPA”) and was told that work is waiting on the delivery of the antique poles.
She also asked if the Sewer Authority meetings could be moved to the evenings and videotaped to be more convenient for residents to attend. Ms. Snyder said it would be difficult for her to attend another evening meeting and the Authority members felt the same.

Other Business
The #NewtownPA Board of Supervisors (BOS) must appoint a new member of the Sewer Authority Board after Linda Bobrin resigned in April 2025. Currently, the Borough outnumbers the Township 3-2 on the Board. At the 28 May 2025 BOS meeting, Board Chair Elen Snyder claimed to have “many letters from people” who want to apply to be appointed to the Sewer Authority Board. However, as Mack and other Board members noted, Board members received only ONE letter. Ms. Snyder has not revealed from whom she received letters and was chastised for acting independently without sharing information with the Board.
The earliest supervisors can appoint a new member is at the the next BOS meeting on 11 June 2025, one day AFTER the next Sewer Authority Board meeting on 10 June 2025. That means it is too late to prevent the three Borough Sewer Authority members from voting to restart the sewer treatment plant if they so choose. Just sayin’
