Newtown Township Supervisor John Mack reported Wednesday night [28 Feb 2024] that Provco Pinegood, LLC, is in the process of finalizing its land development plan and may soon start construction at Lower Silver Lake Road and the Newtown Bypass.
According to township officials [see Approval Letter], after finalizing its plan and submitting it for one final review by the township’s engineer, a pre-construction meeting will take place followed by the start of construction, a process that is expected to take about six months to complete.

John Mack's Insights:
According to this Patch article “Provco agreed to install solar panels on the side of the fuel dispenser canopy facing away from the Newtown Bypass and to include EV charging stations in its parking lot.” However, Wawa recently agreed to install solar panels on BOTH sides of its proposed gas pump canopy as shown above.

John Mack's Insights:
My understanding was that the BOS would vote on the appointment of Mike Dalewitz – owner of the Borscht Belt Deli – at this BOS meeting, but that vote has been delayed.
Nevertheless, since the next HRC meeting is March 21, 2024, it is still possible to bring this up for a vote at the next BOS meeting on March 13, 2024.
Note that Mr. Dalewitz was ordered to remove a neon sign from the window of his deli by the Newtown Zoning Hearing Board. Mr. Dalewitz claimed this was “selective enforcement” of the zoning regulations. See the followiing...

On 15 February 2024, I attended a Bucks County NAACP "Briefing" on Race & Policing in Bucks County. At the briefing was Karen Downer, President, NAACP Bucks County, Helen Tai, former PA State Representative, and member of the Bucks NAACP Criminal Justice and Education Committee, as well as other dignitaries including perhaps a dozen police officers from neighboring communities.

John Mack's Insights:

The goal of Meet Mack Monday Zoom meetings is to inform residents of township issues that impact them and to get feedback and comments from residents about such issues. This helps me keep better informed of residents’ concerns when I vote on the issues at Board of Supervisors meetings.

At the 14 February 2024 #NewtownPA Board of Supervisors public meeting, Mike Fuller, President/Founder of Keystone Lighting Solutions, presented the Final Project Overview for replacing all street lights in town with LED lights.
Listen to his presentation...
Afterward, the supervisors approved a resolution to move forward with the "Base Upgrade" (manual controls) using a "Hybrid Approach"; i.e., 4000 K pure white lights for major roads and warmer, 3000 K lights for local roads and residential roads.
A total of 1,613 lights will be replaced at an estimated net project cost (including contingency fees and PECO rebates) of $720,373. The annual operating cost savings will be $43,679 and the payback period is estimated to be 16.5 years.
|
John Mack’s Insights:
An attendee of the 26 Feb 2024 MMM meting disputed the 16.5 year payback period and suggested that it is likely to be 30 years. Keystone Lighting Solutions, which will implement the project, based it's 16.5 year payment by dividing the net investment cost of $720,373 by $43,679 yearly savings estimate. See the "Financial Analysis & Summary" section of the Project specification document.
The attendee said that this ignores the time value of money (TVM). This is the idea that money is worth more today than the same amount in the future because of the earning potential of the present money.
